Our Story

A Zamalek institution, born from a love of honest Egyptian street food and the belief that great food should never be off-limits — not even at 4 a.m.

A traditional Egyptian street-food counter

The taste of old Cairo, served every hour

Abou al Zouz sits quietly on Abou El Feda Street in Zamalek — easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for, and impossible to forget once you do. The sign is small. The line, when there is one, moves fast. And the food speaks for itself.

We're known across Cairo for two things above all: the ta'ameya — Egyptian falafel done the way it should be, crisp on the outside and herby-fluffy within — and foul medames simmered patiently until it's soft, fragrant, and deeply comforting. Both are served on fresh eish baladi, with tahini, salad, and pickles on the side, the way street food has been served in this city for generations.

What makes Abou al Zouz a landmark, however, is not only the food. It is the consistency. We are open daily from 7 AM to 10 PM, seven days a week — a reliable fixture in Zamalek's busy Abou El Feda strip, serving the same honest ta'ameya and foul that has earned us a citywide following.

"Loved the experience. The grilled meat was tender and flavorful, and the fresh bread made it even better. The muhammara was rich, slightly sweet, and perfectly balanced, while the fattoush was fresh, crisp, and full of flavour."

What we stand for

Old values, simple food

Three small principles have carried us through the years. None of them are complicated, and all of them matter.

Authenticity

We make Egyptian street food the way it has always been made — fava beans, fresh herbs, warm bread, and time. No shortcuts worth taking.

Reliable Hours

Open 7 AM to 10 PM, every day. The same honest hours, the same honest food — the kind of consistency Zamalek can count on.

Generous Portions

Our sandwiches are the kind you need two hands for. Our plates arrive piled high. We have always believed in giving people more than they expect.

"Such a wonderful dinner! Service is perfect and our waiter Mido is so considerate and warm! The boss is so kind and he came over to check if everything goes on well and ask people to prepare blanket for us as it was a bit cold."
